Mandriva Linux 2009 Alpha 2 最引人注目的更新是包含了 KDE4 beta 2、GNOME 的最新开发版 2.23.4。系统内核也已升至 2.6.26rc8。Mandriva 7月10日发布 Mandriva 2009 alpha 的第二测试版，内置KDE4（默认桌面），GNOME 2.23.4，支持最新的 NVIDIA 和 ATI/AMD 显卡。
开发周期中将继续发布两个测试版本（一个在7月底另一个在8月中旬发布），两个预发行版本将在9月发布，并确定最终发行版本会在10月发布。 Mandriva 试图以2009版对抗之前发行的 openSUSE 11.0 和即将来临的 Ubuntu 8.10 (代号：Intrepid Ibex)，甚至要“窃取”他们的一些忠实用户。下面将是 Mandriva 2009 正式版包含的一些特性：
