微软称6月底停售Windows XP

微软称，今年6月30日将停止向零售商和OEM厂商出售Windows XP专业版和家庭版操作系统。该决定打破了几周以来的业内猜测，那就是微软会再次延长Windows XP系统的销售日期，原因是用户并不愿升级到新一代操作系统Windows Vista。
但微软同时表示，在超廉价笔记本电脑市场，Windows XP家庭版和初级版（Starter）将预装到2010年6月30日。

新操作系统Windows 7明年发布

据国外媒体报道,比尔·盖茨周五表示,下一代操作系统Windows 7将在明年“某个时候”发布.
微软一直在瞄准更为有规律地升级操作系统,然而盖茨的言论暗示,Vista继任系统的发布时间可能比大家预期的要早.微软曾表示,在2007年1月推出Vista系统后,下一版系统将在之后约3年时间推出.
微软一位发言人称,盖茨的言论是符合公司系统开发周期的,因为通常在正式发布前会先发布一个测试版.在迈阿密举行的中美洲开发银行年会期间,盖茨参加了一次企业慈善研讨会.在会上他表示,他非常热心于新操作系统的各项功能,在明年某个时候大家将看到新版系统.
即将在6月放弃微软日常管理事务,专心于慈善事业的盖茨透露,微软每年的研发预算达到60亿美元,瞄准将运行在其系统上的产品推向新的高度.他表示,新版Windows系统将对手机产生革命性影响,并可运行新的桌面功能,如允许用户用手来操作的触控界面.

微软3月27日发布Windows Search 4.0 Preview版本，据称Windows Search 4.0查询响应速度比Vista最初版本内置的要快1/3。Windows Search 4.0的搜索引擎也被Office Outlook 2007和OneNote 2007所使用。Windows Search 4.0主要的改进有：
支持加密文件系统Encrypting File System (EFS)
减少在线对e-mail创建索引时对Exchange的影响，取消了本地cache。
改进了索引性能
Windows XP版本更新了更快的previewer

Windows平台4款浏览器最新速度测试
Sunday, June 15th, 2008随着已经很接近正式版的Firefox 3 RC3以及Opera 9.50最终版的相继亮相，Lifehacker再次对Windows平台上常用的4款浏览器进行了速度测试，其他两款是Safari 3.1.1和IE 7.0.6。
驱动之家网站上发布了大致翻译，而没有翻译的原文最后提到：这种对比很不科学，比如 Firefox 用户平时都会用一些扩展实现一些功能，而 Opera 却已经把各种功能集成，这会造成某种程度上的不公平。
尽管如此，总体结果来看，四种浏览器，除了 IE，都还是各有千秋。
测试平台使用一台Windows Vista Home Premium (32位)操作系统，2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo处理器，2GB内存的笔记本电脑。
